We are a small, local woodcraft studio that makes works of art swing.

Our hand-carved, artisan doors are each an original work of art, a one-of-a kind entry door that says who you and your family are and sets your house apart, an heirloom that will last for years.

We can create any style or vision, as you can see by these very different doors. Rustic and understated, or flamboyant and colorful - the choice is yours.

The fanciful door on the left is Mother Gaia (Mother Earth) watching over an Appalachian sunset scene. It is solid teak and laminate with five layers of tung-oil varnish, purpleheart hardwood inlays, quartz inlaid stars, salt and pepper soapstone inlays, cherry carvings, bronze architectural elements, with antique key.

The Bugling Elk door on the right has a more rustic feel, carved in ambrosia maple, inlaid with walnut mountains and slate creek below, framed with a walnut-inlaid oval border, with a rhododendron handle and antique lock.

Bending Inward Tree Door

This creation, Bending Inward Tree, is the latest Highland door, a solid, Appalachian maple sculpted piece featuring a tree that invites one into your home, seeming to grow inward. Its simple design uses the smooth, gentle curves of a mountainscape inlaid in African narra, S.E. Asian kiatt and local walnut. The tree base stands out in bas relief, and foliage nestles in a blue-gray slate rock inlay.

We don’t build the doors – we leave that to professional manufacturers. What we do is design them. You may choose the door you like from the market, or we can have one custom built for you.

If you live in our beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, we can offer face-to-face, full service: visits to assess your home’s character, working with you on color sketches of your vision or our original designs, free delivery and friendly, personal service. We also deliver nationwide and can work remotely - and closely, with you.

“If I were building a beautiful home, I wouldn't Wonderbread the entry door area. It’s where everything begins and ends, from hellos to farewells.  My prices may seem high, but it is not possible to sell a highly customized, hand-carved door that takes a month to six weeks to design and carve, at the same price as a normal entry door. Considering that fiberglass doors can cost $1500 and considering that some other door carvers’ prices can be $10,000, I think my doors are reasonably priced. “
